The Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) is the course of studies normally taken by Victorian students in the final two years of secondary school. VCE Chemistry, like most other VCE Studies, has four units. Each unit lasts for one semester or half year. Units 1 and 2 are usually taken in Year 11. Units 3 and 4, which are more advanced, are usually taken in Year 12. Units 1 and 2 may be taken as single units however Units 3 and 4 must be taken as a sequence. Whilst it is not compulsory to complete Units 1 and 2 before attempting Units 3 and 4, all but the brightest students would find such a course very challenging.

The material on these pages is provided by the CEA to assist both teachers of chemistry and students undertaking the VCE Chemistry Course in 2008.
